British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is a channel full of shows with British stars. Gordon Ramsey, Jonathan Ross, and many others have shows that are very good and very funny. My favorite show on BBC is called Top Gear. Three British men- Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson, and James May- host a show where they give cars of all kinds a review of all their specifications while driving them on either their private, closed track, or a tough trail. They could drive it up a mountain and see how fast it goes, or they can test how far it goes. These guys really entertain me and many other people with their countless reviews.
The guys usually start off with a nice review of a new car that came out recently. They usually review very fast cars like the electric Tesla, which uses about 6 computer batteries to keep it charged and the Porsche 911 which is a lightning fast, little trooper. Whatever they review, they do something good. They give you all the statistics like the top speed, the torque, and the amount of horsepower. They also test the handling, the acceleration, and the brakes so you know as much as you can about the vehicle without getting inside one. The hosts add some jokes here and there to keep viewers entertained and captivated.
The show also has a segment called “The Reasonably Priced Car.” They have a celebrity come to the show and they have a chat with them. They ask about the star's life and then they ask what cars the celebrity owns. After that, they put them in a reasonably priced car which is a Suzuki Liana. They see if the star's driving skills are average, below average, or above average. Ellen MacArthur was the fastest lap time holder for the Suzuki Liana until they replaced the Suzuki with a Chevrolet Lacetti. Ever since the change happened, Jay Kay became the record holder. Top Gear has a separate lap time board where they have Formula One racers go around the track in the same car. The show's test driver called “The Stig” leads that board with my mom's favorite driver Lewis Hamilton, 2008 F1 champion, trailing right behind. This segment is very funny because many stars have run off the track which is hilarious.
Sometimes, the crew does a weird race where they have to go from Point A to Point B in the fastest time possible. One weird race was that they had to take a regular car and modify it with whatever materials they had to make it float in water. Then, they had to race across the ocean to get to some island. It sometimes seems pointless, but they do it anyway. Even though they don't have a prize for the crazy races, they endlessly brag about their victory. Even though it doesn't make sense, it is still amusing to watch.
Top Gear is a show that you can watch at any age. It is mostly for adults because of the kind of information they give you. It may seem confusing but kids can get some of the information down the way they communicate it to the audience. They keep it simple without using big words, and they make a lot of horseplay which really gives kids the giggles. That is what's cool about Top Gear. While they are doing the show, it seems they are always thinking of the kids watching. Most of the material is perfectly fine for kids which is why I love that show.
